Venice, for travellers arriving by car

Drive to Venice.
Not through it.

The road ends before the sightseeing begins. Understand where to leave your car, what to check, and how to make the last part of the journey.

The lagoon crossing is an approach to Venice — not a road through its historic centre.

Where should the car stay?

Choose your arrival point before crossing the lagoon. The right option depends on your luggage, accommodation and onward journey.

Piazzale Roma AT THE EDGE OF THE HISTORIC CENTRE

For an arrival close to the pedestrian city, with garages around Venice’s road terminus.

Continue on foot or take a vaporetto from the nearby stops.

Tronchetto LAGOON-SIDE PARKING AREA

A separate parking destination reached by road after the lagoon crossing.

Check the People Mover connection to Piazzale Roma or water transport.

Mestre & Marghera ON THE MAINLAND

Leave the car before the lagoon crossing and complete your arrival by public transport.

Check the actual walk to a station or stop, and the return service.

Plan a mainland arrival

This is a comparison of arrival areas, not a list of available spaces. Check the individual operator for prices, vehicle limits and availability.

A little planning.
A simpler arrival.

A parking space, a transport ticket and any applicable Venice access payment are separate things. Checking one does not cover the others.

Open the arrival checklist

Use the garage entrance, not “Venice”.

Confirm the exact vehicle entrance and follow current road signs, rather than a broad destination pin.

Check the rules for your visit date.

Traffic restrictions and the city’s access-contribution scheme need separate checks through official sources.

Plan the part after parking.

Know your walking route or waterbus stop, particularly with luggage, steps or a late arrival.

The last leg matters, too.

Understand access before you arrive.

Historic Venice is not a place to drive between sights. Learn how road restrictions, parking conditions and visitor access requirements differ.

Read about access & restrictions

From the car to the canals.

Make sense of walking routes, the People Mover and the vaporetto. Start with the stop closest to your destination, not just its name on a map.

Plan your onward journey

Before you go.

Can I drive to my hotel in historic Venice?

Do not assume that a hotel address is reachable by car. The historic centre is largely pedestrian and water-based. Ask your accommodation which road arrival point and onward route to use; properties on the mainland or other islands have different arrangements.

Can I book parking through this website?

No. venezia-unigo publishes travel information. For reservations, availability, payments or changes, use the parking operator’s own service and review its conditions.

Are parking prices and transport times fixed?

No. Charges, timetables and operating conditions can change. Our guides explain what to compare and link to operators and official city information rather than presenting a live price or departure feed.
